Biography

Rob joined the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries (CMCI) at King’s College London in July 2023. Before taking his current post, he worked at Royal Holloway, the University of East Anglia, Concordia University, and Manchester Metropolitan University, where he held the position of lecturer in Film and Media. He spent his academic career contributing to multidisciplinary research teams. As a postdoctoral fellow at Concordia’s Technoculture, Art and Games lab, he led a team conducting a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded study of video game modding cultures. From 2014 to 2019, he was part of Ego-Media, an ERC-funded project focused on emerging forms of digital self-presentation at King’s. He also served as a senior researcher on an Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project exploring political ideology, rhetoric, and aesthetics in the twenty-first century, particularly concerning the so-called 'Alt-Right'. Rob's teaching spans a range of media, gaming, and digital culture modules, with a special interest in pedagogical approaches that combine creative practice with critical analysis and online pedagogy. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
