Biography

Rob Mestrom is an Assistant Professor in the Electromagnetics research group at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He has over 10 years of experience in multiphysics modeling, having worked on a large variety of engineering applications including MEMS, antenna arrays, RF transceivers, RF hyperthermia antenna design, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). His current research focuses on the application of electromagnetic waves in medical contexts. His involvement in joint work with clinical partners ensures the clinical relevance of his work. Currently, he explores neurostimulation methods such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and EEG-based stimulation, as well as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). He applies electromagnetic field modeling to investigate mechanisms of action and aims to optimize excitation stimuli for personalized care. He also focuses on multiphysics (electromagnetic thermal) modeling, model reduction, and the development of optimization control approaches to achieve focused energy deposition for medical treatments. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Committee on Electromagnetic Fields for the Health Council of the Netherlands. Rob is passionate about multidisciplinary approaches to tackle clinical challenges using science and technology.
