Biography

Rob Power is an Associate Professor of Percussion at the School of Music, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is an active chamber musician, soloist, improviser, orchestral player, composer, and teacher. Rob has performed with various new music ensembles, folk artists, and orchestras across Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and the United States, appearing at numerous festivals in Canada. He has collaborated with renowned musicians, including Rivka Golani and Trichy Sankaran, and has been a regular participant in Newfoundland’s Sound Symposium. Rob's performances include notable compositions from Canadian composers and he has been awarded for his work in music composition. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Memorial University and a Master of Music from McGill University. His innovative approach to percussion includes the construction of unusual instruments. In addition to teaching, he directs the Artistic Committee of the Sound Symposium and is the principal percussionist for the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.
