Biography

Rob Wolfs is an Assistant Professor in the unit of Structural Engineering Design at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research and teaching focus on digital design and manufacturing strategies for buildings and bridges. With an emphasis on the adoption of new technologies, he aims to increase sustainability and productivity in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Key topics of his research concern the application of robotics in construction, with a specific focus on 3D concrete printing, numerical modeling, and machine learning for structural optimization. He investigates how digital transformation can change the design and construction of the built environment. Rob obtained his MSc in Structural Engineering Design from the Department of the Built Environment at TU/e in 2015. His PhD research on 3D concrete printing received a cum laude distinction in 2019, and he has been a tenured Assistant Professor at TU/e since then. In 2022, he was awarded the Veni personal grant as part of the NWO talent program and received the RILEM Gustavo Colonnetti medal in 2024. He has been a visiting researcher at IFSTTAR Laboratoire Navier in France and DTU in Denmark and obtained a PHC Van Gogh grant to collaborate with CY University in France. Rob also serves as an associate editor for Springer's Materials & Structures.
