Biography

Robbert-Jan Adriaansen is an associate professor in the Department of History at Erasmus University Rotterdam and holds the EuroClio Endowed Chair in Historical Culture in Transition at Ghent University. He is the co-lead of the research cluster focusing on Heritage & Identity and serves as the executive director of the Center for Historical Culture. Dr. Adriaansen received his PhD cum laude from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2013. In 2015, he published a significant monograph titled 'Rhythm of Eternity: German Youth Movement Experience, 1900-1933'. His current studies reflect an interest in the impact of digitization on historical consciousness, historical culture, and history education. He is actively involved in various projects, including a €6.75 million initiative exploring sites of trauma in relation to tourism, emphasizing the significance of these locations in cultural memory.
