Biography

Robby Caspeele is a Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials at Ghent University, where he serves as the technical director of the Magnel-Vandepitte Laboratory. He specializes in Structural Reliability and has been active in this field since he joined the university as a Research Assistant in 2006. Caspeele completed his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering at Ghent University in 2006, followed by a Ph.D. in 2010. His research interests encompass full-probabilistic and semi-probabilistic structural reliability analysis, risk management of structures, structural robustness, and the assessment of existing concrete and steel structures. He has authored numerous publications reflecting his expertise and has received several accolades, including the fib Fellow Award in 2024 and the Minerva Award from Ghent University in 2016 for his exceptional teaching and research contributions. Caspeele is also an active member of multiple international working groups and committees focused on structural safety and Eurocodes.
