Biography

Dr. Robert Bechara is an Associate Professor at Queen's University in the Department of Medicine. He was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and received his Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Cell Molecular Biology in 2004 from the University of Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School and completed his residency training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Bechara also completed a fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at St. Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, which he finished in 2014. His training included procedures such as Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), double balloon enteroscopy, and luminal stenting. To enhance his expertise, he undertook a one-year advanced therapeutic fellowship with Dr. Haruhiro Inoue at Showa University Digestive Disease Center in Japan, focusing on techniques like Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), Peroral Endoscopic Tumor resection (POET), Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), and Anti-Reflux MucoSectomy (ARMs). Dr. Bechara has extensive experience with over 300 POEM procedures. His current clinical interests revolve around POEM, ESD, and ARMs.
