Biography

Robert Blair is the Goldman Sachs Associate Professor of Political Science and International Public Affairs at Brown University. His research focuses on international intervention, the consolidation of state authority during civil war, with an emphasis on the rule of law and security institutions. He is the director of the Civil Conflict and Democratic Erosion Policy Lab at Brown and is the co-founder and co-director of the Democratic Erosion Consortium, a multi-country initiative that addresses the causes and consequences of democratic deconsolidation. His fieldwork on related topics includes Colombia, Brazil, Liberia, Uganda, and Côte d'Ivoire, and he has worked with organizations such as the UN Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions, the CIA’s Political Instability Task Force, USAID, and Freedom House. Blair has published research in prominent journals and authored the book "Peacekeeping, Policing, and the Rule of Law in Civil War," published in 2020 by Cambridge University Press.
