Robert Britton is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University. He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) from the University of Waterloo in 1996 and completed his Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia in 2002. Following his doctoral studies, he was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cambridge from 2002 to 2004. His research focuses on natural product chemistry, particularly the total synthesis of complex natural products and the development of novel synthetic transformations. His work also involves method development in stereocontrolled synthesis, exploring the relationship between structure and biological function. Britton's research group targets various natural products, including latrunculins—microfilament-disrupting agents that show potential as lead compounds for cancer therapy; chimonanthine, an alkaloid with potential for pain modulation; and eleutherobin, a soft coral-derived diterpene glycoside with antimitotic activity similar to taxol. Britton also teaches courses including Organic Chemistry Laboratory and Introduction to Experiential Undergraduate Research.
