Biography

Robert Brodrick works in the Palliative Care Medical Education Group (PalliMEG) at the University of Cambridge, specializing in the development and delivery of training for undergraduate medical students. He serves as a facilitator in the Clinical Reasoning and Communication Skills team and has co-developed the Death & Dying course. His research interests lie in creating and evaluating simulation-based education programs. Recent projects include 'Managing Dying,' which uses multimedia simulation in medical schools across the UK, and 'Managing Uncertainty,' focusing on video-enhanced patient care experiences. Currently, he is in the process of setting up a Care for Dying Adults simulation course that utilizes hyper-realistic manikins, professional role players, and patient monitoring equipment to allow medical students to practice the role of a resident doctor in the final days of a patient's life. Robert also regularly teaches medical students about symptom control in advanced diseases and participates in the Simulated Clinical Encounter Examination (SCEE) working group, which develops assessment stations for medical finals. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a master's degree in medical ethics and law. Presently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree, researching the simulation used to foster psychological resilience and training medical students to provide care in the last days of life.
