Dr. Robert Carlisle

Biography

Robert Carlisle is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, where he has been a faculty member since 2012. He completed his BSc in Biochemistry, MSc in Toxicology, and PhD in Gene Delivery at Birmingham University. Carlisle has over eight years of experience in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford. His research primarily focuses on achieving systemic delivery of anti-cancer agents for the treatment of metastatic cancer, including the development and testing of novel nano-scale gene delivery systems and liposomal agents. He has held significant roles such as Director of MSc in Nanotechnology Medicine Healthcare and Associate Director of the Synthetic Biology CDT from 2015 to 2022. He has received recognition for his contributions, including the CRS Jorge Heller JCR Outstanding Paper Award in 2016 for his work on enhancing ultrasound-mediated drug delivery to tumors. Carlisle is involved in diverse research areas, including drug carrier design and the applications of external stimuli for improved drug delivery, particularly in clinical trials and commercial translation of healthcare technologies.
