Dr. Robert Carlson

Biography

Robert W. Carlson is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, specializing in Oncology and General Internal Medicine. He is an emeritus faculty member, having held key administrative positions including Unit-based Medical Director for F-Ground at Stanford Hospital Clinics and Chair of the Scientific Review Committee at the Stanford Cancer Institute. His research interests are vast, focusing on clinical investigations into breast cancer, including NSABP studies on chemoprevention, adjuvant therapy, psychosocial interventions, and treatments for metastatic disease. He has contributed significantly to the field through meta-analyses and has developed computer-based systems to improve patient care. These include expert systems and methods for conducting literary searches in cancer treatment and safety studies, such as trials evaluating the efficacy of modified vaccinia vaccines in breast cancer. He is actively involved in various clinical trials aimed at improving therapeutic strategies for breast cancer patients, particularly those who are HER-2 positive.
