Biography

Robert Carroll is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where he teaches courses in intercultural communication, conflict mediation, and community engagement. He directs the Communication Foundations 2 program, which enrolls over 900 students each semester and is supported by a teaching team of 15 instructors. His commitment to innovative teaching has been recognized with the Provost’s Teaching Fellowship in 2023 and the UT Tower Award for Community Engagement Course in 2024. Additionally, Carroll serves as affiliated faculty in the McCombs School of Business with the Center for Global Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Texas at Austin, following a B.A. in Communication and an M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Missouri. Before his tenure at UT, he held advising roles at Temple University and the University of Kansas, focusing on the academic and professional development of students. His dedication to global education has led him to teach abroad in Copenhagen and Barcelona and to pursue course development and research in Southeast Asia. Beyond his academic pursuits, Carroll is also a Communication Coach for McCombs+ and works as a Speaker Coach for a consulting firm, serving a diverse range of international clients including Google, Apple, Microsoft, and the Pokémon Company. In his personal life, he is an avid traveler who has visited over 45 countries.
