Biography

Robert Enright is a University Research Professor in Art Criticism at the University of Guelph, recognized as one of Canada's prominent cultural journalists. He is the founder and currently serves as the Senior Contributing Editor of Border Crossings magazine. Throughout his career, he has received 14 nominations for the National Western Magazine Awards for his writing in Border Crossings, winning four gold and silver medals. Enright has also been an art critic for CBC Radio Television for 25 years, contributing to a number of network programs. Additionally, he is a regular contributor to the Globe & Mail and several international art magazines, including ArtReview, Modern Painters, and ARTnews Contemporary. He collaborated with Arthur Danto on the book Eric Fischl: 1970-2000 and published a collection of 32 interviews titled Peregrinations: Conversations with Contemporary Artists. His contributions include essays, introductions, and interviews for 20 catalogues across Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Apart from his writing in visual arts, Enright has conducted interviews and reviewed works in theatre, dance, film, and performance art. In 2005, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada by Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson. In the winter semester, he conducts a Seminar on Theory and Criticism.
