Biography

Dr. Robert Fowler is a Clinician Investigator and Professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine and Division of General Internal Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto. He completed his medical degree at McGill University in 1995, followed by a four-year residency in General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, finishing in 1999. Dr. Fowler then completed a clinical fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University, where he also earned his Master's in Science in Clinical Epidemiology. Since joining the Department of Medicine and the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2003, he has served as a staff physician in Critical Care Medicine, focusing on both teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and clinical fellows. His active research program is dedicated to improving clinical outcomes for critically ill patients, with major research interests in blood conservation, infectious illnesses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome and sepsis, economic evaluation of therapies for critically ill patients, clinical trial methodology, patient safety research, and evidence-based medicine.
