Biography

Robert Gibb joined the University of Glasgow in 2004 after working at the University of Central Lancashire and serving as the Leach/Royal Anthropological Institute Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. He holds a MA (Hons) degree in Social Anthropology and Sociology, and a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh. His doctoral research, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), involved an anthropological study of the French anti-racist association SOS-Racisme, exploring the intersection of party politics and anti-racism in contemporary France. Gibb has conducted extensive anthropological research on refugee status determination procedures in France and Bulgaria, with a focus on translation and interpretation issues. His work is part of various projects including an AHRC-funded study on asylum applicants' narratives comparing legal discourses in the UK and France. He is actively involved in research concerning language translation and social movements, as well as contemporary social theory.
