Biography

Robert Gibbons is the Blum-Reise Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, where he has made significant contributions to the fields of biostatistics and public health. With over 300 peer-reviewed scientific papers and five published books, his research spans various areas including longitudinal data analysis, item response theory, and statistical methods in mental health. Gibbons has received numerous accolades, such as the lifetime achievement awards from the American Statistical Association and the American Public Health Association, and he is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the International Statistical Institute. He founded the Mental Health Statistics section of the American Statistical Association, highlighting his commitment to advancing statistical applications in public health. Gibbons' educational background includes a PhD in Statistics/Psychometrics from the University of Chicago and a BA in Chemistry/Mathematics from the University of Denver. He is actively involved in research that addresses mental health issues, including suicide risk and the therapeutic outcomes for patients with bipolar disorder, making his work vital for improving public health outcomes.
