Biography

Robert Gillezeau is an Assistant Professor at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 2015. His research focuses on economic history, particularly the experiences of Indigenous peoples in North America, examining the intersections of discrimination, protest, and state institutions. Prior to his academic career, Gillezeau served as the Chief Economist and Office Leader for the Official Opposition in Ottawa, and as a senior aide to the Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier of British Columbia. He is notably associated with the Broadbent Institute as a fellow, and as co-director of the Canadian Economics Association's Indigenous Economics Study Group, as well as being a founding member of the Canadian Economics Diversity Committee.
