Biography

Robert Golden is the Dean of the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he is also a Professor in Psychiatry. He has a distinguished career in clinical research and leadership within the field of psychiatry. Dr. Golden has published over 250 papers and book chapters, and has served on various editorial boards and advisory committees. His academic interests focus on the psychobiological and psychopharmacologic aspects of mood disorders. He has held numerous national appointments, including President of the American College of Psychiatrists and Director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his undergraduate education with honors in psychology at Yale University and earned his MD from the Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Golden completed his internship, residency, and chief residency in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, followed by a research fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health. Before joining UW-Madison in 2006, he served in several leadership roles at UNC-Chapel Hill, including Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.
