Professor Dr. Robert Gomulkiewicz

Biography

Robert Gomulkiewicz is the Judson Falknor Professor at the University of Washington School of Law, where he is the founding Director of the Intellectual Property Law & Policy Graduate Program. His scholarship focuses on intellectual property licensing, legal protection of software, and the intersection of contracts, intellectual property, and technology. Gomulkiewicz has published a treatise and teaching textbooks on intellectual property licensing, along with numerous articles concerning software licensing and open-source software. He is the author of the Simple Public License (SimPL), a plain language rendering of the GNU General Public License. His experience includes serving as the Associate General Counsel for Microsoft, where he led a team of lawyers providing legal counsel for Microsoft's major software products. Gomulkiewicz has previously engaged in insightful discussions as a Herchel Smith Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge and as a Senior Engelberg Fellow at New York University School of Law. He has given numerous talks on topics such as free speech and intellectual property law, demonstrating his influential role in shaping contemporary legal discourse.
