Dr. Robert Guralnick

Biography

Professor Robert Guralnick's research interests lie in algebra, particularly finite algebraic groups and linear permutation representations. He applies group theory to study problems in arithmetic algebraic geometry and coverings of curves, especially in relation to Galois theory. He has been recognized for his contributions through various awards, including the Frank Nelson Cole Prize in Algebra in 2018 and being named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2012. He has served as a plenary speaker at multiple conferences, including the AMS-VMS Joint Meeting and the British Mathematical Colloquium. Guralnick also has a substantial editorial presence, having been an associate editor for the Annals of Mathematics and a senior editor for Linear Algebra and its Applications. His work has been influential in the mathematical community, evidenced by his engagement in professional memberships such as the International Linear Algebra Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Throughout his career, he has held various academic titles and positions, including as a Department Chairman and numerous visiting professorships at prestigious institutions.
