Biography

Robert Hadfield is a Professor in the Photonics Division of Electronic Nanoscale Engineering at the University of Glasgow. He is a member of the University of Glasgow Centre for Quantum Technology and serves on the Executive Committee of the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK in 2003, and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado, until 2006. After returning to the UK, he held the position of Royal Society University Research Fellow at Heriot-Watt University, where he was promoted to Reader in Physics in 2009. In 2013, he joined the University of Glasgow as a Professor of Photonics and served as Head of the Research Division in Electronic Nanoscale Engineering from August 2014 to July 2018. He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the J&E Hall Gold Medal in 2012 and the James Joule Medal in 2019. He is a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Robert leads research in superconducting detectors and has published over 115 peer-reviewed papers across international journals, demonstrating significant contributions to the field of photonics and quantum technology.
