Biography

Robert Hare is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. He has dedicated his academic career to the investigation of psychopathy, examining its nature, assessment, and implications for mental health and criminal justice. Over his 35 years of research at UBC, he has become a foremost authority on psychopaths, authoring several books and more than a hundred scientific articles on the subject. He developed the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) and co-authored its derivatives, including the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version, Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version, and the Antisocial Process Screening Device. Additionally, he consults for law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and serves on the Research Advisory Board of the FBI's Child Abduction Serial Murder Investigative Resources Center (CASMIRC). His teaching and research interests include psychopathic criminal behavior and psychophysiology.
