Biography

Robert Saleem Holbrook is a Lecturer at Penn Carey Law and the Executive Director of the Abolitionist Law Center, a law project dedicated to ending race and class-based discrimination in the criminal justice system and forms of state violence. He previously served as the Director of Community Organizing at the Abolitionist Law Center in Philadelphia, leading campaigns against Death Incarceration and Solitary Confinement. Holbrook has extensive experience working on issues of civil and human rights for prisoners, having co-founded several organizations including the Human Rights Coalition and the Coalition to Abolish Death Incarceration in Pennsylvania. He is actively involved in advisory boards such as the Amistad Law Project and the Youth Arts and Empowerment Project. Holbrook has personal experience in the criminal justice system, having been incarcerated for decades for a non-violent offense before his release in 2018.
