Dr. Robert Holt

Biography

Dr. Robert Holt is a distinguished scientist and co-director of the BC Cancer Immunotherapy Program at the Canadian Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre. His research has led to over 200 publications with more than 118,000 citations, earning him a place among the top 1% of cited researchers in Web Science as recognized by Clarivate Analytics in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Dr. Holt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia and earned his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Alberta. His career includes notable experiences such as a short postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Evolution at the State University of New York, followed by a pivotal role at Celera Genomics, where he served as the Scientific Operations Manager during the human genome's initial sequencing. At the Genome Sciences Centre, his work focuses on the structural diversity of T cell and B cell receptors, which are essential in distinguishing healthy cells from mutated or infected ones. He leads efforts to genetically engineer immune cells to improve cancer treatment and has conducted significant research on the relationships between pathogens and cancer, particularly the links between Fusobacterium nucleatum and colorectal carcinoma. His lab employs advanced deep sequencing techniques and computational methods to explore T cell responses in cancers and is actively involved in developing innovative cancer vaccines and therapies.
