Robert Holzer is an Associate Professor Adjunct in Music History at the Yale School of Music, where he has been a faculty member since 2005. He specializes in the Italian Baroque and the Viennese School of music. Holzer received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and has taught in the Department of Music at Yale. He is a co-author of Volume 1 of the Oxford Anthology of Western Music, and his scholarly work has been published in prestigious journals including the Cambridge Opera Journal, the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music & Letters, Il Saggiatore Musicale, and Studi Musicali. Holzer has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Musicology and the Journal of the American Musicological Society. Additionally, he has been a musical commentator for Radiotelevisione Italiana. At Yale, he teaches various courses in music history, including “Approaches to Classical Style,” “The Operas of Giuseppe Verdi,” and “The Music of Igor Stravinsky.” Holzer also oversees the semester colloquium and DMA seminar. Before joining Yale, he taught at Rutgers University, Princeton University, and the University of Chicago.
