Dr. Robert Hormats

Biography

Robert D. Hormats is a lecturer at Yale University’s School of Management and has a distinguished career spanning several administrations, serving as a senior official under five American presidents. He previously held the position of Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment. At Kissinger Associates, Inc., he serves as Vice Chairman. Hormats began his career in 1969 as a Senior Staff Member of the National Security Council, working closely with prominent figures such as Dr. Henry Kissinger and Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski. He played a significant role in the establishment of U.S. relations with China during the early 1970s and was involved in critical international economic policy developments and negotiations across various economic forums. After a successful 25-year tenure at Goldman Sachs, Hormats returned to government service in 2009, where he further engaged in strategic economic diplomacy. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at Princeton University and has served on various influential boards and councils, illustrating his commitment to public policy and diplomacy.
