Biography

H. Robert Horvitz is the David H. Koch Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a member of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research and the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. He is also an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on the roles of genes in animal development and behavior, aiming to gain insights into human disease. Horvitz's research team examines how genes control these processes using the model organism, Caenorhabditis elegans, a nematode. They identify and analyze the molecular and cellular pathways involved in significant biological areas, with the ultimate goal of clarifying fundamental biological mechanisms that could enhance our understanding of human disease.
