Biography

Robert House is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford. He is actively researching the development of compact, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which have revolutionized portable electronic devices. With a growing concern about the financial and environmental costs associated with lithium-ion technology, Robert's work focuses on investigating new energy storage chemistries based on earth-abundant elements such as sodium, manganese, magnesium, and iron, aiming to provide cheaper and sustainable alternatives to current lithium-ion batteries. His research employs novel synthesis methods to create new materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries and aims to understand the fundamental charge storage processes, structural transitions, and ion transport mechanisms that underpin their operation. Robert completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Sir Peter Bruce and previously held positions including Junior Research Fellow at Linacre College.
