Robert Howell joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria as an assistant professor in 1980 and was promoted to professor in 1993. He has previously worked as a part-time tutor at Victoria University of Wellington from 1977 to 1979 and as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Illinois from 1979 to 1980. Howell served as co-director of the International Intellectual Property Summer Program from 2002 to 2007 and was a member of the Board of the British Columbia Law Institute from 2008 to 2018, being elected an Emeritus Member in 2018.
