Biography

Robert Jansen is the S.F. Blake Centennial Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his Ph.D. in Botany from Ohio State University in 1982, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan. After serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut from 1987 to 1991, he joined the faculty at UT-Austin in 1991 and was promoted to Associate Professor before becoming a full Professor. He chaired the Department of Integrative Biology from 1998 to 2015 and has served as the Director of the Billie L. Turner Plant Resources Center since 2016. Jansen's research focuses on plant molecular systematics and evolution, with primary interests in comparative genomics and the evolutionary relationships among angiosperms. He is involved in several editorial boards for journals including BMC Evolutionary Biology and Journal of Plant Biology and is a distinguished adjunct professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of genetic relationships in various plant families.
