Biography

Robert Jefferson is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at King's College London. He received a BA in Biochemistry, Biophysics, & Molecular Biology from Whitman College, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from UCLA under the supervision of James Bowie, where he developed techniques for studying membrane protein folding under native conditions. His research has been funded by an NIH Training Fellowship in Cellular & Molecular Biology. Jefferson continued his academic journey as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in Patrick Barth's laboratory at EPFL, where he applied his knowledge in physical biochemistry and computational design for GPCRs and cellular engineering. His current research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying protein stability and function, developing protein-based therapeutic tools in synthetic biology. Through a combination of computational and experimental methods, Jefferson's lab aims to model and engineer dynamic membrane protein complexes and explore their role in cellular signaling and disease states.
