Dr. Robert Kern

Biography

Robert C. Kern, MD serves as the Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He joined the faculty over a decade ago following his residency at Wayne State University, supported by a two-year NIH research training fellowship. Dr. Kern obtained his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His primary clinical interests include chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, and both benign and malignant sinonasal tumors, particularly employing a transnasal approach for cranial base tumors. Dr. Kern is the Principal Investigator of a Clinical Core funded by the NIH for a Program Project Grant focusing on Chronic Rhinosinusitis. He has held significant roles in professional organizations, including serving as Past President of the American Rhinologic Society and as General Secretary of the International Society for Inflammation & Allergy in the Nose. Dr. Kern’s commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in otolaryngology is evident through his extensive involvement in various professional committees and societies.
