Biography

Holding a PhD in economics from the University of Louvain (Belgium), Robert Lacroix was a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Montreal from 1970 until 2006. During his time at the University, he held various positions including head of the Department of Economics and director of the Centre for Research and Development in Economics. He served as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 1987 to 1993, and from 1994 to 1998 was the president and co-founder of CIRANO (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en analyse des organisations). Additionally, he was rector of the University of Montreal from June 1998 to May 2005, becoming professor emeritus in May 2006 and the first emeritus rector of the institution in May 2011. Lacroix has authored numerous books, chapters, scholarly articles, and research reports in labor economics and the economics of technical progress and innovation. His notable works include titles that were finalists for the Donner Prize and others published by prestigious presses.
