Biography

Robert Laprairie is an Associate Professor and the GlaxoSmithKline-CIHR Chair in Drug Discovery Development at the University of Saskatchewan. His research primarily focuses on the endocannabinoid system, particularly the type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R). He investigates how CB1R activation by the body's cannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids can regulate physiological processes such as appetite, pain management, and neurodegenerative disorders like Huntington’s disease and epilepsy. He aims to explore the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids to enhance understanding of cannabis medicine and contribute to the development of novel drug compounds. His teaching responsibilities encompass undergraduate and graduate courses in molecular pharmacology and neuroscience within the Pharmacy programs. He is also actively involved in committee work with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Animal Research Ethics Board at the University of Saskatchewan.
