Biography

Robert MacDonald is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Waterloo. He is also a Managing Partner at Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI), a heritage consulting firm based in Ontario. With expertise in human paleoecology and geographic information system (GIS) applications in archaeology, MacDonald has directed numerous archaeological assessments and excavations throughout Ontario since 1982. His doctoral research focused on the environmental factors affecting ancestral Huron-Wendat settlement in south-central Ontario. MacDonald's work includes the development of Indigenous site potential models and archaeological management plans for municipalities across Ontario, and he remains actively engaged in public discussions regarding archaeological heritage. He has contributed significantly to the field through his publications and has held prestigious roles, such as Research Fellow at Trent University and Deputy-Director of the Quaternary Sciences Institute at the University of Waterloo. He organized and contributed to symposia for the Ontario Archaeological Society, and served on their Board of Directors, including a term as President. MacDonald's contributions to archaeology have been recognized in numerous peer-reviewed articles and publications, establishing him as an authority in his field.
