Dr. Robert Maher

Biography

Robert Maher joined the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in 1988 and has been a prominent member of the Accounting and Management Information Systems Area. He teaches courses in Administration, Financial Accounting, and Advanced Financial Accounting, which are integral to the Bachelor of Business Administration program. Throughout his career, he has received notable accolades including the UNB Merit Award in 2004 and the Faculty of Business Administration's Excellence in Teaching Award multiple times in the years 2003, 2011, 2012, and 2013, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence. With extensive professional involvement, he served as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs from 1992 to 1998 and has been actively engaged in accounting education standards through the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants since 2003. Maher has held the position of Secretary and has been a member of the board of directors at the Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy, where he contributed as a member of the Board of Examiners responsible for the Uniform Final Examination, the national entrance exam for Chartered Accountants. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Trustees for the Pension Plan of Academic Employees at UNB, overseeing strategic investment decisions. His research interests center around basic timing issues in accrual accounting and challenges in accounting education. Maher is also a recognized Canadian author, having written 'Financial Accounting: Principles and Issues,' a widely utilized textbook in undergraduate and graduate business programs across Canada, with his publications featured in reputable journals such as the Administration Society Journal and Accounting Case Research.
