Biography

Robert (Bob) Malte is a lecturer at the University of Washington in the Health Systems and Population Health Graduate Program. He served as CEO of EvergreenHealth from 2010 to 2018, leading the nationally ranked health care system based in Kirkland, Washington. In 2018, he joined the MHA faculty at UW, concluding a 40-year career in health management. His academic interests encompass strategy, leadership, organizational systems, and governance, with a particular emphasis on the use of case studies in teaching. Malte has also held senior leadership roles at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Denver, ThedaCare, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, and Loyola University Medical Center. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is actively involved in the MHA Education Committee, overseeing the program’s Case Competition process. Malte has served on multiple boards, including the Washington State Hospital Association, where he was past Board chair, and he currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Lake Washington Institute of Technology and the Kirkland Performance Center. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a Certificate in Lean Management.
