Robert McCutcheon is an Associate Professor and Wellcome Clinical Research Career Development Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on developing methods to assist individuals with psychotic disorders, particularly schizophrenia. While current pharmacological treatments target specific aspects of the disorder, cognitive impairments such as memory, planning, and attention continue to contribute to the disability experienced by patients. McCutcheon conducts studies utilizing both human and animal models to test new treatments aimed at improving cognitive symptoms. He employs advanced imaging techniques, including positron emission tomography and functional MRI, to investigate the underlying mechanisms of symptoms and treatment effects. McCutcheon has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and completed an academic foundation training clinical fellowship through the National Institute for Health Research. He also finished a Wellcome Clinical PhD fellowship and has a clinical lectureship in psychiatric training. His work is supported by the Wellcome Trust, and he collaborates with colleagues from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London.
