Biography

Robert McIntosh is an Emeritus Professor at the Plant Breeding Institute, School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. He obtained his BScAgr, MScAgr, and PhD degrees from the University of Sydney, completing his doctorate in 1968. He held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri in 1969-70 and undertook sabbaticals at the Plant Breeding Institute in Cambridge and Kansas State University in 1977 and 1994, respectively. After retiring in 2002, he was appointed a Visiting Professor at Kyoto University, Japan, for 10 months and has continued to contribute as an Honorary Professor at the Plant Breeding Institute. In 2013, he was appointed Emeritus Professor. McIntosh has served as a member of the External Program Advisory Committee for the Durable Rust Resistance Wheat project led by Cornell University and was the editor for the Annual Proceedings of the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative Workshop in 2009. His expertise includes wheat genetics improvement and disease resistance, particularly concerning rust diseases. He currently supervises students and delivers informal lectures on pathogen genetics. McIntosh has been actively involved in research grants, including projects on rust-resistant wheats.
