Robert Monaghan has extensive experience in the Aboriginal community-controlled health sector, having worked with national, state, and local governments for 25 years. He is the inaugural Manager of Nations Health Research at the Kirby Institute, where he leads the development of systems, policies, and a cultural framework to support health research focused on Aboriginal communities. Additionally, he chairs the Kirby Institute’s Nations health research advisory committee and is a member of its Executive Committee. Robert is currently completing his PhD at the Kirby Institute, concentrating on identifying barriers and enablers for Aboriginal men in accessing culturally appropriate health services to enhance STI and blood-borne virus testing and treatment. He employs Indigenous research evaluation methodologies, such as yarning circles and men’s gatherings, to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in his work. Robert holds a Master of Public Health from the University of New South Wales, completed in 2018, and is dedicated to promoting equality for Aboriginal people through his diverse experiences with various client groups and stakeholders.
