Biography

Robert Mullins is a Professor in Computer Architecture at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge. His current research focuses on efficient and secure machine learning, as well as accelerator microprocessor design and open-source hardware. He is the founder and CTO of CommonAI, which aims to support AI startups and enterprises in rapidly growing their businesses through resource sharing and collaboration. He is also a founder and director at lowRISC, a not-for-profit company that develops and maintains open-source silicon designs, and plays a key role in the OpenTitan project, which is integrated into Google's Chromebook range. Additionally, he is a fellow at St. John's College and serves as the Director of Studies for Computer Science there. He has recently begun work on a new project under ARIA's 'Scaling Compute' program, with the ambitious goal of reducing AI hardware costs by over 1000 times. He is noted for his efforts in promoting computer science and electronics education at the school level through initiatives like the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
