Biography

Robert Nishida is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He leads a research group focused on the development and evaluation of new sensors to measure aerosols and their consequences on air quality. His work is crucial in understanding the environmental risks posed by fine particulate matter and developing technologies to regulate emissions effectively. Prior to his current position, Dr. Nishida was a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta, where he studied viral emissions from bioaerosols of COVID-19 patients. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, where he was awarded the UK Aerosol Society Doctoral Thesis Prize for his research in aerosol science. Dr. Nishida is also the CEO and Co-Founder of Atmose Ltd., a company that develops aerosol sensing equipment. His research interests encompass Aerosols, Ultrafine Particles, and Computational Fluid Dynamics, among other areas. Through his work, he aims to empower individuals with real-time air quality data that can influence public health decisions.
