Dr. Robert Niven

Biography

Robert Niven is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales, specializing in fluid mechanics and environmental engineering. With a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry and Geology, and a PhD in Civil Environmental Engineering from UNSW, he has established a reputation as an internationally recognized leader in research on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and environmental contaminants. His work emphasizes the application of probabilistic inference and data science techniques in various sectors, focusing on the impacts of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Over the years, Professor Niven has been successful in securing significant research funding from multiple sources and has been involved in various remediation projects related to PFAS contamination in Australia and internationally. He is actively engaged in both teaching and supervising postgraduate students, delivering courses in engineering and regularly organizing workshops on advanced topics such as Bayesian inference.
