Biography

Robert Palgrave is a Professor of Inorganic Materials Chemistry at University College London, where he heads the Inorganic Chemistry section. He is the director of the EPSRC National XPS Facility at HarwellXPS, which provides access to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy instrumentation and training for UK scientists. His research focuses on solid state materials chemistry and the applications of materials in renewable energy generation and storage. He completed his Ph.D. in 2007 at University College London, working on chemical vapor deposition of gold nanoparticle thin films. Following his doctorate, he undertook postdoctoral work at the University of Oxford, specializing in molecular beam epitaxy and photoemission spectroscopy, and at the University of Liverpool working with pulsed laser deposition techniques. In 2012, he joined UCL as a Lecturer in Chemistry and was promoted to Reader in 2017, then to Professor in 2019.
