Biography

Robert Prey is an Associate Professor in Digital Culture at the Oxford Internet Institute, as well as a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. His research primarily focuses on the interplay between technology, capitalism, and culture, particularly examining the social and cultural implications of algorithmic recommendation systems and the processes of 'datafication' and 'platformization'. Robert is part of an international team studying algorithmic mediation and taste in streaming consumption practices in Brazil. His academic background includes a PhD from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, and he has held positions at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. His research interests encompass Digital Culture, Digital Economy, Cultural Work and Labour, and various facets of Music Cultural Industries.
