Dr. Robert Quinney

Biography

Robert Quinney, born in Nottingham, UK, began his musical journey as a chorister, initially with the Dundee Cathedral Choir. He commenced playing the organ at the age of ten and later served as the Organ Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, completing both undergraduate and graduate studies. His performing career took him to London, where he worked at Westminster Cathedral for nine years and held the position of Sub-Organist at Westminster Abbey, during which he performed at both national and international events. After a brief tenure as Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral, he relocated to Oxford in 2014. Currently, he directs the renowned Choir of New College, Oxford, and is a Tutorial Fellow in Music. Within the Faculty of Music, he teaches the Techniques of Composition and Choral Performance and has lectured on the history of keyboard music, particularly focusing on J. S. Bach. In addition to his responsibilities at Oxford, he maintains a busy schedule as a solo organist and frequently appears as a guest conductor, notably with the BBC Singers. He is the Director of the Edington Festival of Music and Liturgy and has published editions and recordings that showcase both historical and contemporary choral works.
