Biography

Robert Reid is an Associate Professor based in Montreal, primarily teaching performance and acting, stage directing, and text analysis. He co-supervises the Acting Theatre (ACTT) program at Concordia University, where his artistic work and research focus on the connections between ancient traditional forms and contemporary stage practices. His experiments explore the creation of new 'popular performances'. Reid's artistic projects include works by Le Groupe de poésie moderne, Edward Bond, John Mighton, Witold Gombrowich, Tankred Dorst, Roland Schimlepfennig, and Eduardo de Filippo. He has collaborated on devised projects that merge Beijing opera with Western Theatre, and is influenced by the work of V. Meyerhold and his long-time mentor, Gennadi Bogdanov. Recognized as a Canadian specialist in Theatrical Biomechanics, Reid founded an international research group in 2017 focused on collaboration with institutions in France, Italy, and Germany. He has published various articles on the subject and acted as the editor for an issue of L’Annuaire Théâtral titled 'La tradition et le contemporain'. Moreover, Reid has conducted lectures and workshops at prestigious institutions such as L’École National Supérieure in Paris and the Università di Bologna.
