Biography

Robert R. Reisz is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto, where he focuses on vertebrate paleontology. His research centers on the evolution of terrestrial vertebrates, particularly the origin of amniotes, their anatomy, phylogeny, and ecology. His work examines the Paleozoic amniote record, providing insights into the successful adaptations of vertebrates to a fully terrestrial lifestyle, which laid the foundation for subsequent adaptive radiations that eventually led to modern reptiles, birds, and mammals. Through the study of fossils, Reisz has contributed significantly to understanding the origins and evolutionary radiations of amniotes, as well as investigating the anatomy, embryology, and evolutionary relationships among a variety of vertebrates including lungfish, dissorophoid amphibians, diadectomorph tetrapods, and basal dinosaurs.
