Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Robert Ricciardi. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Robert P. Ricciardi’s research interests involve understanding the molecular mechanisms of viral tumorigenesis diseases. His recent discoveries reveal that the viral protein E1A-12 exerts control over NF-kB, a master regulator of the immune system. These studies are leading to novel ways of controlling inflammation associated with cancers. His discoveries concerning processivity factors enable DNA synthesis in human viruses like HHV-6 and KSHV, the causal agents of AIDS-related malignancy, leading to the development of antiviral therapies. Furthermore, his work in antiviral therapies has led to early candidate compounds aimed at preventing the replication of vaccinia virus, a bioterrorism threat related to smallpox. Alongside his research, Ricciardi teaches a Virology course and is involved in the Division of Advanced Dental Education at Penn Dental Medicine.
